The Eighth Annual Santa Claus Parade took place in Hampton on Saturday, November 28 at 4:00 in the afternoon. Despite soggy weather, the entrants all turned out to make the parade colourful and entertaining. The rain actually ceased as the parade began, making it much more enjoyable for the many viewers along Main Street. HACC thanks all participants and the many volunteers who helped once again this year to make the Hampton Santa Claus Parade a fun start to the holiday season.

The award for Best School Entry this year goes to Hammond River Elementary School. Best Marching Unit was judged to be the Hampton Sea Cadets. Best Commercial Entry was awarded to Hampton Pharmasave. The Hampton Scouts, Cubs and Beavers won for the Best Youth Group Entry. and the Best Overall Entry was judged to be the Town of Hampton Gingerbread House. Awards will be presented at the Mayor’s Levee on New Years Day. Congratulations to all winners, and thanks to everyone who put time and effort into some great entries.

The Hampton Santa Claus Parade would not be financially possible without the generosity of several donors. This year’s sponors were: Bamara Inn, Loughery Law Office, Lutz Longstaff, Dr. James Collings and The Town of Hampton. We are grateful to these benefactors whose monetary gifts allowed the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce to stage the 2009 parade for the enjoyment of the children of our community.

Shirley Bettle graciously asked the blessing before a delicious dinner buffet, catered by Holly’s Restaurant, was enjoyed. CBC Host Steven Webb kept us on course during the evening’s program.

Seven of the original eleven founding members of the Hampton Area Chamber were present as special guests of HACC: Dr. William Rector, Thomas Turnbull, Horold Bettle, Lewis Moulton, Donald Jenkins, Howard Spalding and Senator Joseph Day. Locke Perry was unable to attend, due to family illness, but was represented by his son, Kevin. Debbie Francis of Lutz Longstaff attended to represent David Lutz who was out of town. William Bell and Lindsay Sabean, deceased members of the original Board of Directors, were remembered.

Gerald Pond, Guest Speaker

As each founder was acknowledged, Steven Webb read a brief biography highlighting the individual’s contribution to the Chamber and to the community. A gift was presented by the Chamber to each of the Founders at the conclusion of Steven’s remarks.

Guest speaker for the evening was Gerald Pond, Chairman, Mariner Partners Inc. Gerry spoke about the new and exciting fields available for today’s entrepreneurs, a look into the future as the past was honoured.

HACC wishes to thank all who attended and helped make the 30th Anniversary a success. Special thanks go to CBC Radio’s Steven Webb and to Gerald Pond. They helped to make this a truly special evening.

Approximately 30 members attended the HACC Lunch ‘n Learn at Holly’s Restaurant on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, to enjoy a terrific lunch (especially the carrot cake, yum!!!) and to hear about the Enterprise Fundy Mature Workers Initiative.

Kerri Gedes gave us a brief overview of the program that offers retraining for older workers who wish to get back into the workforce. We all learned that the program benefits mature workers and employers alike.

Holly Singh generously provided our lunch at no charge, and for that we thank her. Holly made available a donation box for those of us who wished to contribute to the Hampton Food Basket. We are happy to report that $327 in cash donations and several bags of food were delivered to the local food bank. Donations of this kind are of particular importance at this time of year. Last Thursday morning 135 families were served at the Hampton Food Basket. Thank you to all who contributed.
